New

investment to make a full fibre network 5G ready is in the range of 0.4% to 7.2%;
- The range of cost
savings for a fibre-5G network due to convergence can reach between 65% and 96%.

Brussels, 14 November 2018 – Today the European Parliament gathered in plenary session in Strasbourg approved the new European Electronic Communications Code, which will soon become the new legislative framework for telecommunications.
The FTTH Council
Europe welcomes this vote on a new framework which provides the National
Regulatory Authorities with the guidance and the tools to reflect Europe’s
ambition to become a fully connected Gigabit Society.
A “Gimme Fibre” Day to place fibre at the core of our lives and economies

4 November 2018 – Today the world is celebrating Gimme Fibre Day. 4 November is the birthdate of Nobel Prize winner Sir Charles Kuen Kao, who was awarded in 2009 the Nobel Prize in Physics for "ground-breaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibres for optical communication”. This year is even more special as Professor Kao passed away last September.
The FTTH Councils’ Global Alliance, chaired by
the FTTH Council Europe would like to jointly pay tribute to Professor Kao who
revolutionised fibre optics.
